removing plastic headlamp covers S1

in the efforts to rejuvinate the car, I am removing the headlamp covers to;

clean out the grass and grit that has called them home

retrieve the dead flies that have gathered in there

all because of a number of gaps etc.

Am i correct that a little heat (hairdryer) will let it loose and then just peel of whats left? Should i buy the retrim sticky stuff or is there another product that will be just as effective/ better?

Yes it should just pull off.

Mine are glued on with Sikaflex by the bodyshop when my vectra damage was repaired.

Yes i used B&Q bath seal on my s1 Elise. it worked a treat

My covers are in a similar state and did think about a hair dryer but has I have defendall I don't want to effect that. I was think that if I take the headlights out I could perhaps use the cheesewire technique by passing a bit of string or wire through the gaps and gently working it round and hopefully off with little or no damage.
I know there is a post on SELOC about the required bath seal stuff.

thanks for the advice, Ive managed to prise one off with gentle enthusiasm but the other seems stuck fast; thats the one with the collection of dead flies. Noice. Probably need a little heat to remove the sticky stuff.

I bought the gunk on Eliseparts the last time i was buying a lot of stuff. Need to get this job done meself ... don't fancy trying to get a hairdrier cord down 5 flights of stairs!

You could try my method and bury the front clam in a tyrewall?
