Replaced a couple of front springs on Polos recently so same amount of work to remove the strut to replace top mounts. Rather than trying to remove the pinch bolt from the hub carrier and removing the strut with the carrier in place I find it easier to remove strut c/w hub (after removing calliper and disc) as the strut can be seized inside the carrier and be a real PITA to seperate on the car. Other than that, usual hassles with seized bolts, spinning track rod ends etc. but then that's the same on any car. Also depending on age of the car you'll need a special socket to remove the drive shaft nut as it isn't a hex nut on later cars but a multi-edged affair. To be honest I'd take it to a garage as you could end up stranded on axle stands.
