more trim refurb Qs - sill protectors/pockets

Post by MRpunchinella » Fri Feb 29, 2008 3:08 pm

Thinking that they need a definate refurb....passenger is ok-ish but the driver has the usual fading, discolouration and marks. Pretty worn at the edge nearest seat too.

Is it brute effort and prise them off or is there skill involved  Anyone retrimmed these themselves?

Im enjoying putting a little effort in and this is about the last thing before the wheels get put in for cleaning etc.

Thanks again.

Brute force. I did mine in the exige. It is plastic with a few strips of that black silkaflex type sticky goo on the back. Once you get one end off it slowly all peels away.

Top advice. Mine are getting a bit tired too, and I fancied some pimp-my-ride alcantara on them for next time :-)

Better add it to the list. Near the bottom mind. A few things need done to ensure I can actually still enjoy driving it first!

Reckon a cheap pair of Tesco black jeans would replace the cloth part it you want it to look kinda original (assuming they all have the black cloth part?!) 1 of mine can do with this, and both with the leather touched up.

There is a company i've seen mentioned on some Mini forums that can match leather paint to the colour of a piece of leather if you send them a sample, not sure what the paint is like, but they claim it's pretty decent stuff if it's easy resto you are after.

Being a proper pikey, I bought a big roll of black alcantera from ebay and some spray adhesive. Combined with a few well placed staples on the back and into the plastic shell of the sill protectors... jobs a good 'un. :)
