Caliper differences between S1 & S2 cars

Post by foz01 » Wed Mar 05, 2008 11:22 am

Is there any, were they improved in the S2 cars?

Ultimately are S2 Exige Calipers an Upgrade to some tired old S1 elise ones, and if so do they bolt on or is it different fittings?

As for as I remember they are identical...

Just fit some decent discs and pads. If you did uprate the brakes then you would have to think about brake balance and sort that out too.

I believe you can machine in a 40mm piston into the rears, to move the brake balance to the rear. Usefull if you fit monster discs to the front :thumbsup

I'll be looking for a set of rear calipers soon for exactly this purpose, if you want to offload your old ones.....

They are all exactly the same. They have different Lotus part numbers but don't let that fool you.

They are all AP CP5111 calipers.

Rear S2 calipers are possibly different but nobody seems to know for sure. I'd be surprised if they are as they could easily just change the design of the upright to allow for larger discs.

Along the same lines, whats the difference between the disks because Im sure my S1 disks dont fit my S2, the centre holes too small, 58 instead of 60 IIrc. Is it just because the hubs are different?

Discs are totally different due to the hub design and offset.
