Adjusting windows

In a word: don't

An hours work and nothing to show for it. I was trying to shim the top of the rear channel on the drivers door. Access is a nightmare and everything is in the way!

Eventually I got fed up and pulled the whole channel out of the door. I ended up gluing the shim pack in place on the channel and fighting with it and the silent channel to get it back in

Finally did get it all in place, only to find that that one of the extra washers I had put in had slipped and wouldn't go back in without taking it all to bits again.

It fits a little better but I have lost loads of skin (no blood this time

) on a pointless sharp bit on the inside of the door.

Grr! There is also a washer in the bottom of the door somewhere I can't find.

you just know that washer's gonna make your life hell now...rattling at every opportunity!

The outer rubber at the bottom of my windows has gone all lumpy, weird looking, almost like a chemical reaction. It's doing it both sides of the car.
What you reckon this could be?

more importantly where would I get new ones?

Rust.... Under the rubber is a metal strip.

Started trying to adjust the windows last weekend - its been leaking water like you wouldn't believe. Sun was out so I took the roof off, removed the winder and door card, laid out all the right tools, went into the house and printed off the right section of the workshop manual. Came outside to find it had been pishing down for twenty minutes. Lost interest and put the roof back on.
Guess what - it hasn't leaked since...

I'll see if I can find my Woollies cataloge (Not woolworths

) loads of rubber trim type stuff in there, might be an acceptable alternative.....

How many 'little' jobs are like on these cars that where you think - I'll just have a wee tinker an improve it = hours of frustration later an it's worse :-/
My windows are fine(-ish) w the hard top but leak a bit w the soft top, which bugs me of course. But I fear it'll be the other way around if I start messing. An better leaking in the summer when the soft top's on (any day now heh). That or the window will start 'dropping'. My mate has had to re-glue his 3 times in the last 3 years

That coupled with my hyperactive-kid-on-Iron-Bru attention span makes for quite a long list of things I start but don't finish

Normally collect most of the bits I need for a job then loose interest. I'll finally stumble across the bit I was missing and then get it done, normally 2 or 3 weeks later
