mems 3 remap = 175 bhp ?

Post by hiscot » Sun Mar 16, 2008 9:13 pm

theres a rolling road in sunderland that can remap mems 3 now he is saying the vvc 160 is showing up as 7200 rpm on tacho ect but with his software and rolling road he sees iro 6800 rpm so he alters the fueling and ing as the map fitted is a, fits all map ie suitable for poor foreign fuel ect and this smooths out the drive but by mapping to HIS 7200 the gains are a to staggering 175 bhp
he has done three cars that i know about and raised performance by 15- 20 bhp he does a before map while your there and a after map
the three folk who have been remapped swear they can feel a huge improvement ( all mgtf ) i think two have 421 exhausts but the std ex pipe car made more power before the remap than the other two

now he hassent heard off king k who also says the vvc goes to a safe 6800 rpm so maybe he is right or the remaped cars are running dangerous rpm figures ( although i know a zr rally car running 7400 fo over a year )
worth a chance ??
btw the road is a dyno dymanics and his before figures are about right
remap for four booked in is approx £270 each

The elises don't use MEMS3. S1 used MEMS 1.9, S1 VVC used MEMS 2J.. S2 uses Lotus's own K4.

The S2 elise VVC (i.e. the 160-ish variant) does rev to 7,200 repeatedly no matter what all the internet folklore says. I've seen it measured with an ignition based tacho strapped onto the engine on a rolling road.

DVA fettles S2 VVC heads and exhaust manifolds and the resulting setup makes 175+ BHP on the standard S2 VVC ECU, so I guess I'm a bit skeptical that just remapping will take you to 175BHP..

I think there is probably some additional power to be had by increasing the rev limiter, but I suspect you run the risk of the VVC mechanism packing up. I wouldn't increase the rev limiter.

As for remapping for dodgy fuel, all production ECUs will be setup with some "knock margin" to protect the engine from pre-ignition when running on lower-than-expected octane fuel. If you reduce that knock margin, you will make a little more power, but you obviously run the risk of engine damage if you run on lower octane fuel by mistake or get some sub-standard fuel.
