My New Front Clam

Post by Ron » Tue Mar 25, 2008 1:18 pm

Hi All,

Just been away for a couple of weeks. The liz was into Murrays to get the immobiliser/alarm system replaced while i was away. High winds caused a lamp post or something to fall on the car and crack the front clam. Murrays replaced the clam with a new one free of charge but the one they put on is Starlight Black whereas the rest of my car is just plain black.

My question is this:

Should i kick up a fuss about the colour difference or just leave it?

Opinions welcome

Ron :)

I would not kick up a fuss, but I would point out that your car was all one colour before, and that is the way you would like it back. It would also affect re-sale value.

Options that I would accept are the bonnet re-sprayed in plain black to match, or the whole car re-sprayed in Starlight.

bit of a no brainer to be honest - DONT just leave it!

Sh1t happens I suppose, but they should have replaced it to be the exact same as before.
As Tut says, it may affect resale value.

Id get it put back into Murrays and tell them to give you a like for like courtesy car while its getting sorted.

Ron, Are you saying the damage was caused when the car was in Murrays care ?- if so you want the car back in the same condition it went in, i.e undamaged and all the same colour

Yep, the damage was done when in Murrays care. I only noticed the difference when i'd got it home.

Phoned Murrays and they said that they will respray the front clam plain black :(

I asked about them just doing the rest of the car starlight but they said no.

Decision time now as i actually think it looks better the way it is and i'm worried about dramas that could happen from a respray (blistering etc).

Any further opinions lads?

Cheers Ron :?

It may be difficult to see the difference but it will hurt the value if/when you come to sell and there is a different paint finish. Therefore it should be sorted. If there are paint finish problems they need to sort that too. Keith

You don't want 2 different shades of black. They did this to me after an accident repair, and in some lights it was passable, but suddenly in direct sunlight or something it would look utterly stupid! Let them fix it IMO.

ps plus the repair will be covered for Murrays by their Insurance, so it is hardly coming out of their pocket.

Hard to believe that they would present the car back to you in that condition unless they employ a colour blind paint sprayer.

I'm wondering wehther they took the fornt clam off another "black" Elise they have in stock, or under erepair, or got a clam painted at their accident repair centre and then fitted to the car at the Lotus place?

Seems a bit off they've sent it back the wrong colour - the only fair option is for them to paint the replacement clam to match the rest of the car.
