slight misfire under load

Post by Shug » Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:32 pm

Had an interesting one last night on a wee run to pick up a kilt. On highish load but low revs the car started to miss. Fine at reasonable load (under 1/2 throttle) didn't happen on lightish load as I picked up revs.

Switched it off, picked up the kilt and it'd sorted itself for the drive home. Car just got up to temp for maybe 5 minutes both ways, but problem didn't repeat on the way back.

Perhaps starting signs of a coil pack on the way out? (S1 VVC engine, so 2 coils) Had a wiring issue a while ago where the plug to one coil was a bit dodgy, but they've all been cleaned up and it's been fine since.

Don't think it'll be water in the wells, as they'd have dried out as it got to temp, not started acting up.

Yup, stinks of HT to me.... I had a similar problem a while back & it turned out that it was the HT fly leads from the coil packs that had packed up, rather than the coil packs themselves. Found both for a smidge more than a tenner at some local motor factor, and the car's been fine ever since :thumbsup

Don't get Magnecor Reds. Waste of money, too fat to fit under the plug cover neatly, and a poor seal round plug wells.
