annoying squeak...

hello.. can anyone help.. was out for a spin today and the steering wheel has developed an annoying squeak.. well it's more of a slight grinding noise as if a particle of dirt is rubbing against the steering column(?) as i turn the steering wheel. can anyone help??

would use a "bats eyelashes" smilie but there isn't one......

I had this on my Elise... Sprayed some DW40 in there and it was fine
