Wasted!!!!!

Post by Mikie711 » Sat Mar 29, 2008 9:32 pm

Question for the collective..........how easy and what's involved in converting a K series from distributor to wasted spark ignition. Have both (dist on car at moment) so cost not an issue. Reason for asking is I will be fitting a ported VVC head with piper cams and retro fitting the distributor is a hassle.

I assume that you'll be using an Emerald ECU to run the show? If so, I dont think it will be too dificult to do - just some splicing of the loom to run the coil pack triggers back to the ECU, and the coilpack wiring its self. Theoretically, you would use the +12v feed from the current ignition coil to power both coil packs and the -ve side of the coil drive to connect one coil pack to the emerald. Then you'd just need to run another trigger cable to the emerald for the -ve side of the second coil pack.

The ECU will have enough information to drive the coilpack output simply from the crank position sensor, so no additional equipment needed I'd recon.... You could run sequential injection instead of the normal S1 batched if you spliced in the cam position sensor from the VVC too though...
