MIL Eliminators

Anyone used these in the past?

Are they worth it or is it an over priced bit of electrickity that could be gotten from Maplin or RS components?

Should I just replace the post cat sensor and do the job properly?

It's an over priced bit of electrickity - probably about 50p in resistors and capacitors, but i dont know how to make one... Would be a piece of cake to knock up if i had a circuit diagram, but short of cracking one open or investigating the lambda sensor output, i'd be at a loss

I've got one on the car, and it does work though!

Are these available for s2 ?

My MIL stays on constant now , it used to go off after a few restarts but now its constant.

Ali had a look at it a while back , but it wasnt showing any major faults and it would not reset

I probably should investigate more but cant be assed.

j33ama, the MIL eliminator that mac's talking about is used to fool the ecu into thinking there's a CAT present instead of a bypass pipe. Unless you've got a decat, the chances are that its somthing else thats causing the fault & this MIL eliminator wont work for you.

Best to see what the fault code is from an OBD scanner and trace from there.

I see , I had an idea that it was used for de-cat but thought maybe it would eliminate any MILs.

Meatyball , ali was having issues last time with his reader if I recall , so he has a new one ?

I have PMed Ali few weeks back but no reply , hopefully if he's in weegieville soon he can pop over for a quick check. Car runs fine though.

Just replace the post cat sensor. It is possible to fake up the correct Lambda output, though interestingly the standard "whack in a resistor" approch is a bit hit-and-miss. For the price of the sensor, I would fit it.

J33ma - you can get the codes read out at any reasonably well equipped garage. If your MIL won't go out, get the codes read and post them up here (we need the numbers, NOT what the garage's tool thinks those mean; typical output is "P7020 Flange valve leaking" - but on the elise P7020 might mean something different, hence the need for the code not the text).

The Toyota dealer will no doubt have a tool to read the codes, but the fact that the engine is a Toyota is a red herring here because the ECU (that stores the codes) is not a Toyota item.

I'm sure these work well enough to make the ECU ignore the data, but in the end, if you have a cat fitted, it's not clear to me why you would fit one of these rather than the actual sensor ...

Bloody weird , My MIL went off tonight ! , Usually goes off after say 12-15 restarts but this time it must have been 50 !

MIL seems to go on if : I rev quite far in second cam not long after the temp appears. Guess I just need to really get the temp up first.

Could be an oil pressure thing maybe?? THe oil will take longer than the coolant to get up to temp, so even though the coolant temp is ok, the oil will be harder to pump than if it was properly warm.... Best to see what the MIL code is...
