brought the car to work today, but the battery light now on constantly.
how long have i got before I breakdown? - and should i risk a run to Dunoon from glasgow - ive got a job on there today!
Ive got parts and labour - can i phone them up just now, or do i need to breakdown?

Drive home - then just phone the boss and say you've broken down?

I made it from edinburgh to glasgow, but only just.... That was with the lights on though.... For the P&L, you need to break down,so best take the car to dunoon & make sure youre mobi is charged
Cheers,

Cool, i'd recon that just having the warning light on would constitute a breakdown, so at least you can do it at your convenience

well, managed to bin Dunoon for today...
so went out to try and break my car there... success!
waiting for AA patrol to come out now. Whats the script with getting it fixed under P+L?
do i get it on a flat bed to a garage of my choice and they then fix it, or if the patrol guy has an alternator, does he fit it?

Congratulations on your almost free new alternator
Unless its a wiring issue, i very much doubt that the recovery guy will be able to fix it on the spot. You'll be looking at a flatbed to a garage (i believe of your choice as long as they are vat reg'd) for a fix there.
Good luck

flatbed wasnt for me - think it was the guys mate checking up on him or something.
First time i have used the AA - i had been a member of RAC for years.
Good service - patrol was there in 30 minutes.
he charged the battery and followed me to the garage of my choice
do they need evidence of servicing or anything to claim the Parts and labour costs back?

Allegedly, yes they do need to see a service stamp but how strict they are on this is variable i believe.... Not much a service will do for a goosed alternator though!
