Having let my battery go flat a few to many times (I know-drive her more often!) I bought a replacement Halfrauds calcium technology battery (same as had previously) only to find that the top plate on it is around 5mm longer than the previous one. So after 40mins of negotiating the old one round wiring looms, radiator, blower intake and wiper motor I found the new one wouldn't drop fully into position as the (?) heater box was fouling it.
Looks like they've re-engineered it to make it look more powerful. Off for refund or to see if they've got old ones still in stock.
Anyone else had this problem with batteries? Any ideas of anywhere else that stocks the required battery in Glasgow?

No issues fitting my halfords one, but it was in an s2....

i just took mine round to the local 'tyres/ exhausts/ batteries' garage who had a new one of identical dimensions.
It went in a lot easier than getting it out!

I had a similar problem when I fitted an Optima battery.
It is a very snug fit but I managed to get it by taking the inlet cover off the heater. Once in I 'jiggled' the battery along under the chassis rail, re fitted the heater cover and then 'jiggled' the battery in to its final position.
PITA or what!!!

being lazy i got the halfrauds dude to fit it for me, took him about 20 minutes, lots of swearing and a skint knuckle!!

Managed to get it to fit!
The top cover of all Halfrauds batteries are the same dimensions of the longest and widest part of the base but is rectangular instead of little shelves for fitting to "normal" cars. It is about 7mm in total wider than the old battery. This leads to the corners nearest the connections fouling on the heater and chassis. Instead of searching for another (I would suspect this design will be fairly standard over the board) I ended up using a hacksaw
to round off the corners and hey presto-it fitted straight away. Wish I'd thought of that earlier before I started bleeding! Just a heads up for anyone changing a battery in a S1 in the near future-best do this mod 1st.
