I think you can turn it off, but not sure if you can turn it down.
It might also wait 30 secs (or similar) after arming the alarm till it sets the sensor.

isn't there a screw on the side of the sensor for adjusting the sensitivity, also I think it takes a few seconds for that to arm.

My alarm gives a warning tone as soon as you reach in then goes off a second or so later

Check that the sensor that lives at kidney height between the seats is actually still velcro'd to the metal panel rather than pointing straight down like it normally does
