If you have a non-standard air filter, chances are the filter won't have been cleaned/replaced since new (not part of the normal service if it's a 3rd party product). There were a lot of MIL issues caused by 3rd party exhausts too. It only gets more expensive after that, so here's hoping ;-)

So would any or all of these issues cause the misfire I had?
Car was serviced about a week ago (non Lotus) so I dont expect oil level to be an issue although I will still check this in the morning.
I dont know what type of filter is in the car so this will need checked also, although I think this may have been changed at the service.
Again non standard exhaust is on the car (2Bular) but this is the first "problem" I have had in about 1000miles of ownership and previous owner never mentioned anything, thats not to say this is not the issue.

Do you actually know the engine was misfiring, or are you just assuming it was and that's why the MIL is/was on?

The MIL comes on for any emissions related fault - could be the carbon canister not working, O2 sensor failure, etc., etc., not just misfire.

Non-standard air filters have been known to cause idle control issues, especially if they aren't cleaned & oiled from time to time.

The engine sounded like misfiring (tractor engine) plus the mil was flashing which according to the manual is a misfire.
Now this ony happened briefly, until I turned the engine off and back on again the "misfire" had gone, and the mil was on constant.
After an hour or so of driving I turned her off again and back on and the light had now gone out, thus no more problem, I hope....

Just to keepeveryone updated, the Lotus guy told me today that it was probably just a "glitch" and not to worry about it too much, if it happens again or wont stop misfiring then it is something that needs to be looked at....

Fairy muff if the car is out of warranty, but if it's in warranty I would be pressing to get to the bottom of it - certainly getting the codes read. If the ECU hasn't stored a code, you have to ask why not!
