Few Emerald wiring queries on VVC..

Post by Gaz-M » Wed May 14, 2008 11:12 pm

Hi guy's, i have a VVC which im fitting an Emerald to. It's the MEM's 2j one with red and black plug.

First off, if anyone has or knows of the conversion data between a VVC and Emerald id love to see it and would even give beer tokens for it!

I have most of it wired but i have the following queries:

1. Camshaft timing control solenoid pins (A23 and A2), where should these go on the Emerald? To aux output drivers? seperate or wired together to a single switched earth output?

2.IACV, this has 4 pins in the red plug (B10, B15, B33, B34) is this the same, 4 seperate drivers from the Emerald that will be mapped suitably with the software?

3.Relay modules, does there need to be any connection to the relay module? 6 pins in the old plugs are connected to the module (A20, A22, A27, A30, A4, A28) A27 appears to be an ignition feed for the ECU (Emerald has one from A33 already), A4 and A28 appear to be to run the fan.

4. Injector's 1 and 4 should be paired aswell as 2 and 3 to seperate injector drivers? (Rather than 4 individual drivers?)

Thanks in advance for any help, much appreciated! :cheers

You need to make sure your emerald supports VVC - I think all the K3 type do, but for the earlier versions you needed to get Emerald to tweak them first.

If you have the K3 type, then the information you need is in the manual AND/OR the outputs page of the ECU setup dialog in the s/w (basically you can set the VVC+ and VVC- to be on a variety of outputs).

In order to use the VVC mechanism you'll need to configure the camshaft position sensor input and configure it also (on the ECU setup dialog, cannot remember name of the page).

Given that you have configured the camshaft position sensor in order to control the VVC valve duration, that same signal can be used to control fully sequential injection, which the K3 supports (and again, it'll tell you on the injection setup page of the ECU tab which outputs are to be connected to which injector).

Shug got his pre-K3 Emerald modified for VVC use; if your current ECU isn't VVC ready I would think getting it upgraded to the K3 would make more sense than just the VVC patch.

Cheers,
Robin

My Emerald is a K3. :P

I have the Emerald pin-out in my manual but i dont know where the VVC solenoids go to.

Dave Andrews has gave me the info on another forum just now, hopefully ill get it all wired.

As for sequential injection, why would i benefit from this? Is there more power to be had? I thought it was to do with fuel consumption?

Thanks for the reply! :cheers

You don't *need* to do sequential injection, but from a wiring point of view if you loom is already wired for sequential injection then it'll result in a more reliable solution if you stick with it (otherwise you'll need to cut and splice the injector wiring into pairs). I wouldn't bother retrofitting sequential injection to a loom that was running batched injection.

Hope that makes sense.

I have it all wired now for the VVC and it has ran for a few seconds with whatever map is in it at the moment. (Not even a VVC one!)

I had originally changed the injector wiring from sequential to paired on Dave Andrew's advice (He accidently gave me the wrong wiring i think), but it's now back to sequential after getting the proper Emerald VVC pin-out's.

Just need to get fuel to it via permanent line's and pump, and connect the exhaust. Then i can upload a basemap and try getting it running decent enough for mapping!

Thanks for the advice!
