Discs and pads - best prices?

Think I've ground my inner front Pagids down to the metal (first time ever) so am about to order:

- pair EBC turbogroove disks
- set Pagid RS42s (front)

Anyone got tips on best pricing around just now? Think an ebay seller has the disks for around £150, and pads are looking like near enough the same...ouch.

With MOT, road tax, service and insurance all coming up in June / July, it's looking like an expensive summer ... just hope I get to drive the fecking thing a bit more

PS - I'm not interesting in using other brands etc, the EBC disk and Pagid pad combo is perfect for what I need and have been trialled over about 7 years now!

Really not much to be saved shopping around for Pagids unfortunately (but aim for £110/119 or so), as i've tried extensively

You could try EBC direct, and they are offering 10% off list price at the moment - may work out cheaper than the ebay deal. As for pagids, i've always gone to eliseparts for mine.

I bought the EBC Ultimax discs this time, £129/pair from JRT Automotive. I did not want drilled or dimpled ones this time, and these are just grooved, but different from the Turbo discs.

Had a bad experience with my pagids... wont be using the again in a hurry. If the price seems too good to be true then they may be old stock, i.e. riveted rather than bonded. will be sticking with bonded pads from now on to be safe.

I don't believe that 42's were ever riveted - may be wrong - I've never seen riveted ones. Campbell, considering you will at best use them for road runs and the odd commute why not put on standard disks and Mintex 1144 pads. Total cost from Eliseparts is 180 quid including VAT. You've had the Mintex before I believe and were happy enough with them at the time - 42's seem overkill if you're not going to track the car.

Top advice as ever. Your memory also serves you well re: the Mintex pads. But I do live in hope of tracking the car before this new set of brakes gives out (they may outlast me indeed!!) and I know the performance I've enjoyed from them at KH and especially at the Ring...and also on a good x-country blast...and I would miss it. I'm the last of the late brakers as you know

Since I may well get back to both tracks by the end of 2009, I am going to be bold and futureproof the car a little while I can

Well I went for a compromise in the end Thanks to Robin and Tut on that really.

EBC turbogrooves again but with Mintex 1144 pads, since they are half the price of Pagid RS42 but I think will last more than half as long. We'll see.

Went with Tut's recommendation of JRT Automotive. £129 for disks, £50 for pads, tenner for delivery. Assuming they all arrive safe and sound and as spec'd, that's pretty impressive.

Anyone know if the anti-rattle buffers are needed with Mintex pads? Seem to recall only Pagids suffered the problem but as ever, could be...and probably am...wrong

Think the buffer is really just in there to reduce brake squeal - could be wrong though

The Atom has 1144's on the rear at the moment (but i got them FOC from the factory )

When I bought Mintex from JRT - they came with the anti rattle buffers in the box.

Well I amaze even myself. Took advantage of the sunshine this afternoon and jacked up UJI to swap the disks and pads. Job's a carrot! JRT supplied the stuff within 24 hrs, even with a payment mixup, very very impressed.

Not sure that the Mintexes bite quite as nicely as the Pagids, nor are they as progressive, but maybe they just need run in.

The old disks were shot on the inside edges, sadly the Pagids probably had a fair amount of life left in them so bit of a shame to have to chuck them. I get the impression that the Pagids wear the disks faster than the pads wear themselves, probably wrong but really did look that way. Hopefully I'll have more cash available next time and can put Pagids back on!

Thanks again to all with advice and encouragement. Maybe I'll get the Elise out in the sunshine a few times this summer after all.
