De-Cat or Sports Cat

Post by Edin430 » Thu May 22, 2008 11:49 pm

S2 Exige....

I was thinking de-cat but already have a Stage 2 and a Pipercross and don't want it massively loud... Anyone got experience of the 3 together? JJ?

I looked at Larini sports cat but for £450 it looked pricey and I'm not sure how good it would sound compared to standard.

What about http://www.elise-shop.com/index.php?mai ... cts_id=414 I'm guessing this will be louder than standard but not too loud?

I had no problems on mine but most folk have MIL issues.

I had it on with the 2bular and it sounded nice, I would think with the stage2 it would sound a bit droney and not that nice, so unless you were buying a new exhaust I would leave it.

I wouldnt do it again if I had a toyota car its not worth the hassle, put it that way!

I took the CAT off my K series Elises for two reasons.

1) Weight
2) There was speculation that after three or more upgraded cars, 180hp+, went up in flames, that the cause was a possible flash back that overheated the CAT.

However there are reasons against it.

1) It is illegal if a CAT was factory fitted on the car.
2) Carbon emission factor.
3) Fumes to the cars running behind you, which is one of Robins bête noires.

And it isn't already massively loud? I remember being in Jamie's Exige with Stage 2 and Pipercross and I thought my head was about to explode :D

Nah it is loud already but nothing compared to my Elise - and I miss the noise...
But I think JJ and Tut are right - there are a lot more cons than pros..
If the sports cat wouldn't effect the MIL then I'd buy it - but at that price its not a chance I want to take without knowing 100% it will be fine
