alarm problem

Post by Chewitt13 » Sat May 31, 2008 9:44 pm

Pain in the arse

went to tesco's tonight came out and heard an alarm going, thought which unlucky sucker was that, turned out it was me  . car started fine and drove home. parked outside the house and locked and armed the alarm. 10 mins later the alarm was having a fit again. turned it off - gave me the 'tampering with ignition' code ( 4 flashes), reset the alarm and stood outside, 45 seconds later, i hear a strange noise from the back and the alarm goes potty again. turned the alarm off and stuck it in the garage.

anyone got any ideas?

Dodgy battery? Dodgy remote? I guess it could be a number of things..

Make sure everything is closed properly including boot and two front access panels, as they can cause the alarm to be triggered. My old Elise used to do it as well took it to MMC and they sorted it for me..

ps. try turning the interior alarm off with the small button on the left (?) of the key fob, then arm the alarm as normal with the bigger button on the right (?).....

This will tell you which alarm is playing up.... It's usually the interior motion sensor that's a right PITA

You need to identify what the noise you can hear from the back of the car is just before the alarm triggers. If you open the boot lid and find the alarm switch for the boot (like the thing in the door that turns the courtesy lights on/off). You'll need to hold the switch closed so the alarm thinks the bootlid is shut. Arm the alarm and wait for the noise. Try and track it down. When you think you know where it's coming from, put your hand on the relevant object and see if you can actually feel any motion or vibration; that should confirm you have located the right thing.

The ECU on the K-series variant used to stay active for about 20-30s after turning off the ignition. At that point it then parks the idle air control valve and closes off the main relay; so you get a whirr and a click, then the ECU shuts down. So it may be similar with the Toyota, and it may be the shutting down of the main relay that is causing some sort of problem that is making the alarm think the ignition is being tampered with.

I am guessing the alarm is monitoring some of the circuits to see if they go live when the key switch is not in the run position. If it sees any activity on those circuits it assumes someone is trying to hotwire the car and goes mental.

So chances are it's a wiring or relay fault or moisture ingress into a connector type of problem (though it could also just be a f*cked alarm module).

Cheers,
Robin

He already told us - it's the ignition circuit tamper code ...
