Control of Traction Control!

Post by Cisco » Sat Jun 07, 2008 8:45 am

On track I normally switch off the Traction Control (car is Exige S).

At last nights' Speedfair sessions I noticed that the T/C started to switch itself back on - the light would go out by itself and the T/C would be kicking in again. Eventually it was doing this 2-3 times a lap and I was having to keep swtching it off again. I think one time it also switched itself back off FFS.

I had a look on other forums and found a couple of similar reports but no solution. Apparently Lotus say that once you disable it it's off until you switch it on or restart the car. Some say it can happen because the driver hits the button accidentally - that's not happening here.

On the way back home (at normal speeds) control of the system worked fine so it's not a simple loose connection. I understand (sort of) that when the T/C is on the ABS wheel sensor talks to the ECU to cut the spark on one or two cylinders when a wheel slips and that the actual mechanism at the wheel sensor is magnetic?

I'm thinking this could maybe be related to higher temps at wheel sensor due to hard braking on track somehow affecting the system/signal. Maybe I can just pull a fuse for track days?
The only change to the car for last night was fittment of a sports exhaust which seemed to be causing slight misfire coming out of turns (or was that the T/C). It got a bit confusing in the end.

Any electronic engineers out there? Thanks in advance.

Take care,

Frank

You could try just inplugging an abs sensor, should do the same thing and they are easy accessable.

Thanks for the suggestions,

Spoke to Murray's tech on Sunday..they couldnt advise however It did what it was told on the Sunday 20 min session so we'll see.

FWIW I found on the US moremonkey.com forum that if you disconnect the T/C loom at the switch and start the car 4 times the ECU permanently disables the T/C and will not re enable without an ECU reflash. Dont want to go down that road though. Some sharp guys on there.

Take care,

Frank
