Halfords Professional Tools
I need some new tools, I have a few Halfords Professional spanners and sockets and have been impressed with the quality. Anyway, this looks like good value for money:

I also want a torque wrench but the Halfords Professional ones are £50, so would this do instead?
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... wrenches-2 Seems like it covers the range of most settings around the wheel, suspension area but is it false economy? Is it likely to fall apart? I'm not planning on stripping the car and rebuilding it, just want something that would cover most jobs you'd tend to do at home. Any other recommendations welcome...

Re: Halfords Professional Tools
I bought a torque wrench from Screwfix for much the same (cheap) price. Does me fine. Only recommendation is to throw away the step-down. It is made of a substance slightly stronger than cheese. Just use 1/2 " sockets straight onto the wrench or extender and it does the job fine.

Halfords tools have one great advantage, the lifetime warranty is enforced by the empty heads that work there. Got loads of broken tools (Due to extreme abuse) changed for free

Re: Halfords Professional Tools
I've got the 120 piece socket set and it's brilliant
Re: Halfords Professional Tools
I have Halfords professional, Clarke professional and snap on tools, the snap on stuff is very pretty but no better IMHO than the halfords stuff, I broke a ratchet (not covered by warranty) but they replaced it anyway. If you are going for the clarke torque rench get the professional one, the normal stuff is a bit nasty.
Re: Halfords Professional Tools
The Hallfords torque wrenches are excellent, most valuable tool in your box (except for hammer of course)
But you''ll need both the 0-60 and 40-200 Nm to cover all the jobs on your car.
The small one is a 3/8" drive and the big one is 1/2" drive. they are both around £50 (each) IIRC.
Whatever you buy make sure you wind them down after using or the calibration will be FAG.
Take care,

I have both halfords professional and snap on spanners and rachets etc. And although the halfords stuff is good the snap on stuff if by far better.smee wrote:I have Halfords professional, Clarke professional and snap on tools, the snap on stuff is very pretty but no better IMHO.
I normally just use what ever tool I find first, snap on or halfords. If I've picked up a halfords spanner and I'm using it on a bolt that starts to round off I'll stop and go find the snap on spanner which 9 times out of 10 gets the bolt undone without rounding it off. I should really save myself the bother and use the snap on stuff in the first place.
The halfords stuff is still really good considering what it costs.
Kev.

I too have a fair bit of snap-on but it's way to expensive for home use. Sealey make good gear and often you can find cheap deals on a lot of their sets. Search the net and you can find cracking deals coz they are always running special promotions.

I have that torque wrench and it has been fine for me, no problems, used on Jeep, Lotus and Escort Van + other things, nothing has fallen off yet.SteveBanks wrote: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... wrenches-2 Seems like it covers the range of most settings around the wheel, suspension area but is it false economy? Teng are very good, I have one of the mini socket sets. Very handy and surprisingly robust.roadboy wrote:
