My S1 had S2 track rod ends fitted to i when I bought it, but I changed them back to the proper S1 items when I did the suspension overhaul. Someone sugested that they would have been fitted along with an S2 rack handled alright with them on and I think I kind of prefered them because they had more threads holding them onto the arms.

That's exactly what they are for. The track width of an S2 is slighly wider than an S1, so that's why they wanted a little more 'beef' to hold on to
