IIRC the Mintex pads come with a stick-on rubbery thing which goes onto the backing plate, meant to be an anti-rattle/squeal thing.

erm, no?? :?
robin wrote:OH and I don't think the anti-rattle pads are for the rear pads but the fronts ... I might be wrong, but I don't recall seeing them fitted to the rears ever and the design of the rears is obviously completely different from the fronts.

I suggest you fit the buffers to the front first - if your rears are rattling we need to work out why ...

Cheers,

I fitted gearys pads to the front a couple of weeks back and they helped for a while. Long enough to let me hear that the rears were just as bad. I didn't clean the front callipers very well tho an I suspect the rattle pads I fitted have fallen out  What should I use to clean the callipers and backs of the pads with before sticking the new rattle pads on?

Also, should I use copper slip (Duralac??) on the backs of the rattle pads? I get sh*t loads of squeel at the minute too :?

Gonna try an fit all the new mintex rattle pads tomorrow morning. I'll try the long nosed plyers trick a go :)

Wish me luck! :)

Cheers all

I'm not sure where you think you can fit anti-rattle pads on the rears. I showed Phil how to change his tonight and had a look but there's nowhere to fit them. The ones on the front don't go on the pads, they go on the caliper o prevent the pad moving around.

p.s. The wind back tool from geary is a complete waste of money. Phil brought his along but we just used pliers cos they're easier!

These aint quite the same as the ones they have sent me but you get the idea - they go on the back of the pads. Geary supplies enough to go on the back of the pads and on the front calliper at the top and bottom edges of the break pad. Mntex sent me an extra set (which are thinner so will fit better) which I'll maybe cut to cover those areas too.

Honestly it aint just me  lots of folk had the same problem w Mintex on BBS an SELOC in the past.

Coppaslip = copper coloured grease (Cos it's full of copper...)

Duralac = anti galvanic corrosion paint for dissimilar metal joints (Ali/steel)

Use coppaslip on the back of the pads to help with squeal, the buffer pads just stop the clunking when you reverse, brake dust will build up and stop this after a while.

Check out the service manual for all the torque settings and threadlocks, but I just use locktite generic threadlock. It does the trick. (Nail varnish works too apparently)

But putting a pad on the back of the pads shouldn't make any difference to knocking as the piston presses against the back when you brake. If the pad is able to move, something's not right. The pads are there to stop squealing as the piston pushes the pad.

You can get a little tube of Copper Ease from D&A Factors round the corner from my work for £2.

Yeah, but they rattle when you're not pressing the brakes ...

I tought that the caliper was designed to hold the piston against the pad with the piston seal? So they shouldn't rattle. This is the self adjusting gubbins but they will always sieze on if they get rusty as the pads are always in contact with the discs. :scratch

Or am I way off...
