Cheap respray?

Post by skellyjohn » Wed Jul 02, 2008 5:38 pm

My car's a long way off showroom condition but I fancy giving it a bit of a tart up with a cheap respray (whole car). Any suggestions in or around Edinburgh / West Lothian and idea of price?

Personally i'd never suggest a cheap respray.

It has the potential of coming out a LOT worse than the way it went in.

Whats the problem with it really?

If in general the painwork just looks a bit cack , Id seriously consider having a detail done , totally restores the the look of the car .

If its cracks and big scratches n stuff then respray it is .

I hope to get mine done so would be interested to find out I want to add a sport 160 spoiler and front diffuser at the same time, So I to would be interested to know where to get a good quality but not stupidly expensive respray and roughly how much mulla* is involved. just so I can see if I need to pear back the other shiny bits I have planned.

*bet you aint heard that word in a while ;)

A good respray should always cost 4 figures, or close to it at least.

I'd thoroughly agree with Jamie on the detailing.

as long as the 1st figure is a 1 and there are no 9's then thats pretty much what I budgeted for

Citi Coachworks in Edin have done Loti before - will do it under 4 figures. And only cos they are "that" kind of trader - don't like the tax man etc.

Sprayed my old BMW E46 coupe for 800quid and it was a top job :thumbsup Pics on here somewhere.

Normal charge is around 3-4k for a Lotus. I was quoted almost 5k from Steve Walker once

Does he still know someone?

I was up at his last month and he was telling me the guy who worked beside him that he used had packed in...

Your nearest quality, experienced Lotus painter is Steve Walker Bodyshop in Bathgate. All IMHO from personal experience, of course.

But the advice on detailing is very valid. Couple of guys on here are posting up pretty impressive results IIRC.

John -

Give Al R a call from http://www.360complete.com - works on my car every month and specialises in paint restoration through detailing :thumbsup LOT cheaper than a respray and top bloke.

He did the front of the Mule, and is currently in between jobs, when he gets back from holiday.....might be worth a call if you dont want to just visit a paint restoring chap.

He'll also look at the car and advise - he's a good bloke (will be even better once he finished polishing my car!)
