sticky acclerator cable
hi all - anyone had a sticky cable before on an exige s2 and know how to fix it? I have tried lubing the bits i can see but it threads in a case all the way back to the engine obviously. I am looking at taking it to a garage? The only problem I think i have with it is that sometimes I have to blip the pedal to get it idiling at just below 1k rpm like normal - sometime it sticks at 2k rpm - hard to tell whether its affecting low range revs when I am actually driving....
any thoughts?

Could be the actual TB (Throttle body) it is moving rather than the cable that is sticking ?

Get someone to press the pedal while you're in the engine bay, looking for movement at the TB. Then move the TB with your finger and feel for stickyness.

Dunno what the linkage is like under the dash but the S1 one can get sticky. I had the throttle stick at 4k rpm as I arrived into traffic in preston. Not much fun!

As Shug mentioned check if throttle is sticking in the engine bay vs pedal. Try this with engine running and engine off.
Could also be the IACV...

Heard this can become sticky with build up of carbon. Done mine last week it was pretty dirty. Take it off quick scoosh of carbon cleaner plug it back in ignition on it moves scoosh scoosh clean and then off back to position scoosh scoosh job done. mine is an 05 plate...sanj always tells me he knows what he's doing so will try not to plant my car into the wall in his garage. Last time i saw sanj "mending" his car he was bashing a brake caliper with a hammer

Little valve which controls the amount of air by-passing the throttle. Normally at idle the throttle is completely closed and this valve provides the air. Hence if it's sticking too far open, idle can be too high. I've also had it stick closed and this in turn caused a vacuum in the manifold which would jam the throttle slightly open - revs would stick at 3K or 4 or 6K...

The ECU also uses it to smooth off the throttle in light on/off throttle (if it's sticking can make light throttle applications more jerky).

ah ha - i am wondering if maybe the viper induction kit that was fitted when i bought the car is part of the problem?

You have it oiled and clean, yeah? I don't think Andy's was even oiled when a certain Scottish dealer fitted it...
With a foam filter, it's not the foam doing the filtration - that's just a medium for the oil that actually does the filtering. If it's dry, all it's doing is stopping stones getting in...
