My 2p - if it isn't easilly explainable or common knowledge then I wouldn't even bother playing about with it.

Was given the plates off the guy who sold me it , just dont see the need to change them if i dont need to

Nah its not too bad mate... I don't think youd have any problem with a normal police car - however a traffic cop could be different....!
Only thing is the Elise already sticks out so the attention has already been drawn! I used to have mine spaced "inappropriately" but changed it so I never got in another bother!

Vaccum pipe is usually connected to revs (prolly from the plenum, I guess). You might be able to pull a source from somewhere, but you won't be able to keep it shut all the time, I fear.

What's the problem with putting the cat back in? You feel it's too loud - the only real reason to take the cat out is for noise (unless you're running a 180bhp+ K series) so put it in and you've solved the noise issue and given yourself an easier time at MOT. Seems win win to me, no?
