Help needed please! The heater on my car (S2 111S) is very happy pumping out hot air (when the engine's warm and the fan on) but the temp regulator doesn't seem to do anything - it's always hot.
Not the end of the world, but I will try to sort. Any clues on what it could be?? The heater control still feels connected to something (insert appropriate stiff knob gag here

) but obviously not actually doing anything.
Any clues on what it could be? Is the heater cable likely to have become disconnected?? Any idea how I get at it??
Ideas welcome!!
Many thanks
Tim

I thought they were electric control (i.e. you turn the knob which causes the solenoid on the heater housing to follow suit).
I know that doesn't help much - might be an idea to get a quick peak at it with the access panels off while someone turning the knob ...
Cheers,
Robin

It's mechanically / cable actuated ( on mine at least ) If you remove the N/S front access panel you can see where the cable clamps to the the temp adjustment lever on the the heater. Tim - I've pm'd you a link with more details.

Thanks for the thoughts on this guys. In the end, Robin was right. Although the 2002 service manual shows the cable connection it must have been changed to electronic activation by 2004 (mine's one of the first 04 models): I spent ages looking for a cable this morning - couldn't find anything but pushing at all the electrical connections made it work fine again.

Glad you got it fixed with minimal effort Tim - sorry about the misinformation

Should have known better than to contradict Robin
I just checked mine again ( registered June 03 ) to confirm that I'm not going loopy - it's definately mechanical so I guess they must have changed in the second half of 2003, or that the 111s controls are different from the 135R.
