Thoughts/advice.....?

Post by Northernpar » Thu Aug 07, 2008 3:43 pm

Currently got an MY08 Exige S with PP and TP so got the upgraded brakes and an extra 20BHP with the rest all standard. Power is currently stated at 238BHP but I've now looking at what options are available for upgrade/tuning to see if I can get it into the 260-280 range and increase torque. At this stage I'm just looking/costing things up before I decide if it's going to be worth it. So far:

Exhaust - Looking at the 8" 2Bular GT3 package (if Jim ever gets back to me!)

Suspension - Currently standard but want to go for adjustable as this will be my daily hack so looking for some advice/guidance on others.

Adjustable Roll-bar - Some to choose from but again advice sought.

SC - Anyone out there done a pulley upgrade on the standard fit?

Chargecooler - Anyone out there done an upgrade on the standard cooler?

ECU/Remap - Loads of good/bad stories posted. Considering the above what would you go for?

Plus any other areas I'd need to consider upgrading to cope with any extra power and improved handling. Also any reliable outfits out there worth talking to about this?

Thoughts/feedback/advice appreciated!

Don't take this the wrong way, but why do you want more power? I can't see it being hugely easy to go for 260-280 bhp and retain every day reliability. Does it feel slow?

I don't usually disagree with Shug....however....there are several upgrade available....one of the guys on here did one from 220bhp.....I will look for the thread now.....he said it was superb and improved the driveability....

However....why do you want more power (as Shug said)??????

There have been a few threads over on SELOC about upgrades for the Exige S, although I think they were for the 220 version rather than the PP. Seems to me the Exige S with PP is already a very quick, thoroughy developed, well honed car and while there is plenty of scope for spending lots of money on upgrades I doubt there is that much room for significantly improving the driving experience unless you are using it exclusively on track. Stick on a nice sports exhaust, otherwise leave well alone and enjoy a fantastic car :thumbsup

As I said in the thread still just looking and probably looking for responses like these to keep the old common sense topped up. Seen the car quoted in an article on Hangar111 and I guess that's what got me thinking about what the possibilites are. The down side is the law of diminishing returns, the more you try and squeeze the last bit out the more it costs and not sure I want to spend the cash quoted for a meagre improvement overall on what I've already got. The car doesn't feel slow although once you get used to it it doesn't feel fast if you know what I mean.

I guess ryallm's suggestion is probably the best; stick on a nice sports exhaust, perhaps an ECU and remap (post-warranty) to compliment and be done with it (and wait until Lotus come out with the high-powered Evora).

Cheers

Do you track the car? I only use a small percentage of the CR's performnce on the road. I find having more power on the road is a bit pointless unless you are on track.

I say, keep it as is for road use.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Hey NP

I would take it on a trackday to get a feel for what the car is about.

None of the mods you have mentioned will make much difference on the road ...but you do have some compatriots on here from around ABZ who have already done most of the mods you discussed so would think you are in a good position for test pax etc..

Take it on track and you will have a clearer idea of what you want from your car. My shoping list is a bit like yours but none of the items are relevant to the road, cept maybe the Nitrons and that's just by chance... and the sports exhaust - forget about your radio though.

Take care,

Frank
