Recommended plugs ? Recommended Oil?
Recommended plugs ? Recommended Oil?
What are the best spark plugs to go for?
I have also discovered that its an idea to check the oil every now and again. What oil should I be topping up with on a no doubt weekly basis?
Ta,
Greg

Re: Recommended plugs ? Recommended Oil?
plugs - the rover recomended ones
oil - if it's weekly top up's cheap stuff! I think Costco where doing Mobile 1 for £20 or something.

Mobil 1 0w40 does me through the winter (colder, with less ragging so keeps it a bit quieter)
Mobil 1 15W50 for summer and TD season, although probably not necessary unless you have an oil temp issue - which I'd guess you won't.
The Silkolene stuff that Ali uses gets good crit as well and lots of folks using it thanks to the blatent forum spamming of oilman at opie oils
Plugs, list gratuitously nicked from the 'COCK
* Champion: RC8 PYP
* NGK PFR 6N-11
* NGK PFR 6 N R
* Bosch F 5 DP 0R
* Bosch FR 56
You can only get a plug that is the wrong temp - flashy ones won't give you more power. At best, they may last a little longer.

When did you start putting oil in your car?

Re: Recommended plugs ? Recommended Oil?
I'm using the Champion Plugs (British Plugs for a British Car
)
Got them from here, pretty cheap (bought a spare set)
Discount Sparks on Ebay
Oil wise, I'm using Valvoline Racing 5W50 - Pentland Components sell it at a reasonable price, and I've been using the 20W50 version in Minis for years with good results!

I've had several bad experiences (non Lotus) with Champion plugs so I would avoid these. I've always found NKG plugs to be the best.
£21 for 4 litres of Mobil 1 in Costco, I don't think you'll get a good synthetic oil for than anywhere else

Re: Recommended plugs ? Recommended Oil?
I always avoid NGK as they are a cheap Japanese plug. Never had problems with Champions in the 20 odd years I;ve been messing with Minis, and seen many problems cured by ditching the nearly new NGKsNeil72 wrote:I've had several bad experiences (non Lotus) with Champion plugs so I would avoid these. Each to their own, but my money is on the Japanese ones
