I'm sure I could make a foam mould the next time I'm pouring a new seat - then all you need to do is get creative with the ole glass fibre

The 7 is even worse for this. my solution is a strip of duct tape down either side of the plug cover and never had a problem again

You cannot fit the EU3 rain cover to EU2 engines because the EU3 uses a plug top coil system and so has no port for running the EU2 plug leads through.
You could modify the cover so that it would work, you would want to blank off the EU3 cam position sensor at the same time.
I think Thinfourth's approach is a reasonable one, except that the tape will probably peel off from time to time.
Silicone sealant is probably best.

Remove the spark plug cover; run a bead down the two long sides of the cam cover, and perhaps down the short edge where the cam cover meets the rear timing belt cover.skellyjohn wrote:Silly question, but where excatly does the silicone go?
Also, remove the rubber bung that the spark plug leads clip into and put silicone underneath and up the two short sides, then stick it back in - this will stop water running up that way - don't seal the top of the bung, though as you want somewhere for some air flow.
Refit the spark plug cover while the silicone is still not set; it will squidge out the gaps - you can wipe clean any excess on the outside before it sets.
Leave the end that the spark plug leads run through open for ventilation purposes!
Now of course when you next remove the spark plug cover it's going to undo all your hard work - but if you do a good job you may find you've created a rubbery gasket that will work - if not, a quick run over with the stanley blade and reseal it.
Another option would be to use some old bicycle inner tube to create some edging strips that you can silicone in to the channel in the cam cover and that the spark plug cover will then clamp down onto, IYSWIM.

You're welcome to take a look at the one on my engine - Andy may also have one spare as we took one off the EU3 engine that went into the RLC.Think I'd like to take a look at one of these then, even I can drill holes in plastic

Why not use soemthing like RTV and lightly oil the engine top before assembly, that way the RTV doesn't stick to the enigne and you get a gasket bonded to the cover...
