Exhausts........again..

...apologies I know you're probably fed up with this subject. I'm looking at getting a new exhaust for my yota 111R. I currently have the standard issue. The info on the various options is very sketchy and below is what I've managed to find to date. I'm looking for something that isn't too loud, won't reduce performance, is lighter and provides a better tone. I think I've already ruled out the stage 2 (too loud and from what I've read not exactly 'hard-wearing') and I'm not sure I'm willing to stretch to almost 500 for the 2bular (unless convinced otherwise).

Any opinions??

Oh, and one other thing, I'll need to be able to convince Laura that I managed to get it for 50 quid from ebay!

I've got the Stage 1 on mine and cant complain. Is quiet enough for pootling around town but still sounds pretty good when you open it up

I'm not sure if i'm just imagining it but i think that the stage 1 that came with my car is blowing a little. Sounds a little rougher than usual. Would you be expecting a stage 1 to last longer than just over 3 years and approx 27k miles?

From what i read the larini and 2bular seem to be the ones to go for, coming in around £470 each for twin/slash cut tail pipes. (like my stage 1). Paulo I think the larini price of 395 is excl. vat.

I was wondering what people thought of the alternatives like the Janspeed (seems a bit of a bargain at just £300), or others like Milltek and Quicksilver which i think come in at around £380?

I haven't heard any of the above compared to mine as I haven't got into the trackday thing...yet

I was actually thinking about putting the standard zorst back on as I want to be able to take my wee boy Max out in the car and he doesn't like noise - he'll need to toughen up, but at just 20 months old I'll let him off for now

A word of caution on Quicksilver - they may try and weasle out of the guarantee if you take it on track. I would alway go for the Janspeed - others may sound better but for speed of delivery and aftersales service (had mine repaired and returned in under a week - no questions asked) they are hard to beat.

In my opinion there can only be one choice....Larini! The note from their "Sports" box is beautiful!! Its proper motorsport. Officially its sound tested at 96dB so not over the top loud.

At this point i'll admit that I am biased because thats what i have fitted to my 111R but honestly, you can never get bored of that sound

The downside to choosing the Larini over others would be cost and service. The cost isn't a major issue, it might be a little more expensive than others but it is proper quality kit and fit & finish are excellent. Service, however, is the weakness. I'm pretty sure from reading posts on here that i'm not the only person that has had to wait around 5 weeks for delivery after being told at the time of order that it would arrive in 2wks max. The guys in the sales and enquiry office are spot on and help as much as they can but if you do order one, expect a delay. That way you wont be so dissapointed when it takes longer than predicted. I'll tell you right now though, once it arrives and is fitted you'll forgive them for the delays and think its the best exhaust you've ever owned....or maybe thats just me

That sounds like Larini marketing twaddle to me. Absolutely no way would their 111r/Exige exhaust pass a 98db static test, let alone 96. I agree it does sound fab though

As I have said before, I think ALL the exhaust options are poor. What we need is a valved sports exhaust - properly quiet on the motorway or a noise restricted track day, loud when you want it to be. I wish the manufacturers would get their finger out and design and exhaust like this. It has been done by Kreisseig, but their 'Valvetronic' exhaust is mega expensive and seems to be switachable from loud to ear bleedingly loud rather than quiet to loud.

Would probably weigh a ton compared to the competition - bearing in mind if you want a quiet cruise, you have to make the backbox big enough to quieten it - then add extra pipework for the straight-thru bit. Plus, if you're making something that complicated (think about getting power/vaccum there to switch the valve, then cables to the cockpit for the switch - doesn't sound like much, but it'll all add up) it can't help but be expensive.
