Indicator/wiper stalks

Post by Gareth » Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:43 am

Currently have the chrome ones from Eliseparts that came with my car but I don't like them.
I can buy new Vauxhall ones from ebay for about £8 each (wiper and indicator). Would this be a easy swap (I think it must be plug and play sort of thing)? You have to completely change each unit out.
To fit chrome ones you have to saw the vauxhall stalk in half, glue and allen screw the chrome ones on...hence why I need new ones.

TIA
G

Pretty easy IIRC - though it's been a while since I changed one.

It should be very easy. I'm not sure about the column surround on the 340R, but on an Elise it's only 4 screws. The stalks then unclip from the column and the connector block from the back of the stalks. The stack does make plugging and unplugging the connector slightly tricky, but overall it's a one spanner job.

The only problem with the e-bay/vauxhall ones is that the markings are wrong and they have an extra position that is unused in the Elise. IIRC you can push the wipers forward, not sure what it wold be for and it's no big deal but they are different none the less. Fit the same way and the connector blocks are the same.

Rear wiper / headlight washers?

Is there any effect of pushing it forward, ie if you accidentally hit it forward when going for max speed the wipers stop or anything...?

Its for the overdrive on 4th and 5th, similar to the old TR4's, but although the cogs are actually in the box, it has never been wired up on the Elise.
