clutch....

Post by Jamie84 » Sun Sep 21, 2008 1:39 pm

I have become a little paranoid abut my clutch over the past few days .

Iv noticed that when I clutch I can hear it hit the alluminium as in bottoms out . It never used to do this , but it could just be that I am sitting closer or clutching harder I dunno .

This has made me kinda parnoid that my clutch is gubbed , Ive started trying to convince myself that the biting point seems to have got a little higher but it could just be in my head :scratch

Anyways it slightly worrying , I had a new clutch fitted at MMC only last year due to an issue with the gearbox. I think I recall somthing about a warranty on new parts such as a clutch ? anyone clear that up ? would put my mind at rest a little if it does go .

How should a clutch feel if ts on its way out ?

As I said , Could all be in my head .......

Gear selection problems or clutching slipping would be some signs....

the revs rise and you don't move forward all that well,

The clutch is like 2 plates that join the engine and gearbox together when you depress the clutch pedal it puls these apart making it easier to change gear. Then the clutch pedal is up the 2 plates stick together, when your clutch is fecked they stop sticking and the plates "slip"

it's like driving with your clutch just off the biting point. you could try so you know how it feels but it does your clutch no good.

You should notice the difference in bite as you release the pedal if there is a clutch problem.

If it is worn, then it will be closer to fully up.

Would doubt if a clutch is covered by warranty....unless you can show it failed quickly rather than worn out!
Good luck.

Try and start off in fifth, using revs. If it doesnt stall you need a new clutch. Do this too much and youll definatly need a new clutch.
anyway what you describe is the noise of the pedal bottoming out on the backplate? if so maybe its just worn a rubber stop?

thats the first thing I thought of , had a look around but cant find any rubber part thats fallen off . I can feel what seems like glue on the back of it , maybe the rubber has stuck to my boot !

Can anyone confirm if there is a rubber stopper on s2 clutch ?
