Oil Consumption?
I've had the MY08 Exige S for around 6 months now (albeit at least one month of that was spent with JMG to get the feckin paint sorted but that's a different story) and put some 4.5k on the clock. I've been routinely checking the oil level but so far it doesn't appear to have dropped in level any noticeable difference. The whole Yota dipstick/measurement isn't the best design which got me thinking about if I am getting an accurate depth measurement on the dipstick. Tried both cold and warm oil with no real difference in measurement so thought I'd post to see how much topping up others are doing.

Don't remember ever having to top up my 55 plate S2 Exige, and that's with a good few trackdays

Re: Oil Consumption?
Mine went through a small amount.....would have been fine witthout the top-up.....just did it anyway!
Re: Oil Consumption?
Yeah,
The Yota engines don't seem to use oil..I change mine every 3000 miles..and it has never needed a top up in between.
Take care,
Fred

Just to throw a spanner in the works...
A friend (who doesn't come on SE) has an s2 exige (his 3rd lotus) currently getting a 6 grand (or there abouts) engine rebuild. 1500 miles after a service it started making "bad" noises. Diagnosis was that it had hardly any oil in it and he was told he should have checked it more carefully and more regularly. Cant comment too much about it since I believe Lotus bigwigs are involved but suffice to say that if the oil went in at the service then the car used it up. Best to keep checking the dipstick methinks.

Re: Oil Consumption?
I've owned two Toyota cars, n/a and 240hp S, neither used any oil at all (7000 miles on n/a, 6000 and counting on S).
Including a fair mileage on track. I'm changing oil at 3000 miles though.

Re: Oil Consumption?
Which is why you always, always keep an eye on the oil level. Obviously something has let go in the engine to cause it to use oil (something as simple as a seal) and if you keep an eye on it, you avoid expensive engine lunching and can fix the problem before it costs you thousands... I've heard of very few Yotas using oil at all if the engine is okay.renmure wrote:Just to throw a spanner in the works...

Re: Oil Consumption?
Had mine nearly 4 years and she hardly uses any oil at all if any, however I did have one problem with the fuses and that co-incided with a time when the oil went real low very suddenly (the electrics did all kinds of weird things dont know if the low oil caused the electrical fault or vica versa) so it is important to check the oil regularily.
I would say that goes for oil in all cars really.

Re: Oil Consumption?
No oil use at all.
6700 miles, got a fluid change at 700 and at 4000. 7 trackdays + 2 days at the ring and some pacey road miles
Last oil change was fairly black but this one is still fairly golden.
