S1 Heater fan

Post by DavieK » Tue Nov 25, 2008 9:39 am

Just a quick one

Our heater fan is making a high pitched noise when running so i had a quick look lastnight and took the ducting from the fan to the flap housing off to check the fan and found that its rubbing on something. Looking at it it looks like a nightmare to get the fan out, so ....... whats the best way to go about this, will it coume out the top or is it a under the car job ?

I've had a look at the manual and it says to take the battery etc. out but that was for taking the whole shooting match out and if possible just the fan would do me.

Cheers

Well tonight with a couple of hours to spare and since the battery was flat I decided to bite the bullet and try and fix the heater fan. Once i got the battery out and the heater matrix with the heater flap out of the way i found the fan was fine but the reason for the noise was that the distribution flap had too much travel on it. As it was on it furthest out hole already I had to drill a small hole as far out on the lever as i could then tried the fan with the flap fully opened ... Hurra no rubbing.
I think i only lost a little amount of coolant as I made up a couple of clamps for the hoses for the matrix with some small strips of wood and a couple of mole grips but we will see what the level settles at once i fire it up tomorrow/today.

This might not be much but it's the first work ive done on a car in a long time and its nice to get the spanners out at home rather than at work :)

Oh aye one more thing ... anybody wanting to do this watch when you take the spring clip for the control cable off as its an utter bugger.

BY the way anybody thats been on the factory tour are the workers built like Mr Tickle ? long skinny arms and hands would come in handy :D

I've got a pit you can use if you need to get under it - I'm free most weekends (in Memsie)
