Pads

Post by Edin430 » Mon Dec 29, 2008 11:36 pm

Sorting out the brake kit which should arrive in the next couple of weeks and the last thing I have to choose is pads, which im going to order seperately as feel the company doing the kit are overcharging for them.. Anyway which pad is best for -

1) Little Brake Dust as possible
2) No squeeking/squeeling
3) Sub £100 for front pair

So far I've been offered EBC Red Stuff (which is what I'm swaying towards) Mintex 1155 or 1890 (never heard of the latter) or Porterfields which I've heard are all the rave in the US at the moment.

What do you think?

:cheers

Should mention that calipers are 4 pot, discs 295mm so I believe I will need larger pads than OEM?

Erm, you'll need the pads that are made for your calipers... :? I have SBS pads on my car as i think they're a better compromise for me than the pagid 42's

I've been told that I can use a wide selection :?

EBC Standard
EBC Greenstuff
EBC Redstuff
EBC Yellowstuff
Mintex 1890
Mintex 1144
Mintex 1155

All the above are offered with the kit...

But as above I can get them cheaper from Ebay etc than from other places.

obvious choices are pagids but do you dont use it on track? I wouldnt bother with them or redstuffs, yellowstuffs are more than enough.

Sure, but i was referring to the shape of the pad rather than the material... Dont know what kind of calipers you've got, so I dont know what manufacturers make a pad that will fit them :thumbsup

Ah ok gotcha.. (you can tell im not familiar with this thing)

Heard a couple of good things about yellowstuff and prices are pretty good as well :thumbsup

Don't use it on track although i'm 22 in a few weeks so that may change depending on what the insurance say.

Sent the guy another email so will see what he says about size etc and get back to you - didn't even think to ask originally  Should maybe just let him supply them and be done with it

I'd definitely find out what pad shape you're looking for for future reference - you might find that the callipers take a standard AP / Brembo sized racing pad and can order them online elsewhere...

To be honest, you might save yourself a lot of hassle by just whacking them in with your brake order however - if they dont fit then you know who to point the finger at! If they do fit, then you can just get the part number of the pad box and cross match later :thumbsup
