I was trying to do him a favour by not naming him directly.
remember that your car is non-standard so it's not fair to assume that every shop will automatically know everything they need to
know or have the tools to adjust it.
This is not the first time he has got the timing wrong on a car. Is Noops car that highly modified to make it that hard to work on?? I would hope that any lotus specialist would be able to spot what has been modified and work with it accordingly?
This is exactly why I would take my car to someone who knows (and has the tools) to fix my car correctly in the first place.

This issue haas sod all to do with the timing on the car..
The cam gasket.. which has "exhaust" and direction arrows embossed into it in large letters was fitted the wrong way round. This meant there wasnt a seal around the spark plug holes and the oil return holes were on the wrong side, so one half would fill up and the only exit point from above the gasket would be through the plug holes. Hence the oil in the plugs..
Simple mistake.. were all human.
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

The problem with Neil's car after the HGF was not cam timing and could and should have been diagnosed by Ali as it was running perfectly well when it went in (HGF aside). Neil asked Ali to fix it and he said that he couldn't. Therefore Neil took the car elsewhere. Not something he should have to do IMHO.
It wasn't just one stud that had come loose on the exhaust manifold. All were loose and one was missing completely.
I agree that the cam cover gasket being incorrectly fitted should have been noticed when it was subsequently removed but as is usually the case, it remained attached to the cam cover when removed so was not refitted separately, otherwise I'm sure it would have gone back on the right way.
Hopefully that covers all the facts.
I do not agree with Robin receiving abuse from anyone as he is always very diplomatic and fair.

I feel bad now.....I was having a joke at the Kelly bro's expense (who did return the slagging off board)......if I'd known all this was going to happen I'd have stayed out of it.

I see - must be crossed wires then because at somepoint somebody said it was two degrees out .... Anyway, I guess we all hit upon problems like that from time to time ... sometimes you just need somebody else to take a look at it.

The timing was out Robin but that was not the problem.
