Blower NLC

Post by craigs135s » Mon Jan 19, 2009 8:25 pm

The blower in my pug only works on number 3and 4, 1 and 2 are non-existant any reasons on why this would be? Is it a case off pull one part off to fit a new part or could it be a number of things?

Cheers

Depending on how the speed control works it could be wiring or the resistor pack. The resistor pack may or may not be a separate part on your car - they can be embedded in the blower unit itself.

I would start by finding the blower, finding the wiring that runs to it and see if you can see a resistor pack (in this case you're likely to see 4-6 wires running to the pack). If there are only two wires running into the motor, the resistor pack is either elsewhere, or the speed control is being done with a proper speed controller circuit - either way you need to trace the wires back towards the switch - there will be a black box inline in the cable somewhere that has the resistor pack or speed controller.

Cheers,
Robin

- if the heater blower only works on 3 then it must be a problem with the heater resistor block. On 3 it bypasses block and supplies a full 12v to motor on the 1&2 it steps the voltage down to slow the fan.
Hope this helps a little

Scottishelise -

it depends on which car you have - assuming no aircon, S1's were all cable operated flaps - the heater matrix is always in the cooling circuit and a flap directs air to the cabin either from the matrix or from the fresh air.

K-series S2's use stepper motors to control a similar mechanism.

I think most of the toyota engined cars have air con, and I would guess the arrangement is totally different for these, but never looked, so don't know.

So, what car have you got?

Cheers,
Robin
