Jenvey throttle bodies - linkages
Jenvey throttle bodies - linkages
A poser for you.
From my recent throttle cable snap at Cadwell, I thought I'd look into a better way of mounting the cable. Y'see - on most K series setups that I've seen, the throttle cable is mounted straight down towards the bodies and pulls at an angle to rotate the spindle via the lever on the centre bodies. Seems certain to cause wear to me as the cable drags away at the outer sleeve.
Jenvey do a very good looking top-slung linkage that has a straight pull and second return spring built in - but it's expensive at over 100 notes when you add everything together with VAT.
Does anyone know of anything else? (the Auto Teknix one just pulls at an angle as well)

The jenvey kit for the elise can go under the TB's as well as on top. QED do one that pulls for the under side but it is off set as well. It could be modified for a central pull and is cheap.

Re: Jenvey throttle bodies - linkages
Same issue with that as with my current setup. Cable pull is at an angle, so will wear it. I know plenty of people use them with no problems, but mine has gone through 2 cables now (and I do adjust the stops properly each time I fit) I was looking for a linkage that lets the cable pull straight (or on a quadrant) so I guess the Jenvey one is the only one that does this?

Re: Jenvey throttle bodies - linkages
I have to admit that when I fitted the QED one I had the same thought as the cable pull is offset quite a bit. So, ordered a jenvey linkage kit which looks like a nice bit of kit and comes complete with everything you need, so they say. It can be fitted above or below the TB's and gives you a second return spring as well plus you can change the opening rate of the throttle.

Saw someone used the 90deg tube of Mountain Bike cantilever brake. At least increased the bend rad.

If you run the cable over any rounded surface it'll be fine, surely?
So if your cable is more-or-less vertical then position a horizontal round cross section rod (pref something hard and smooth like an extension bar for a socket set) so that it's tangential to the natural line of the cable.
If you want to be really fancy you could try and engineer a wee pulley in there, but given how long it lasts fraying away against the cable sheath I would expect it to last a long time running without a pulley.
Cheers,
Robin
