How the hell can it break a cam shaft?? I would have thought that the torque required to such a with would ripped the teeth from the cambelt first??

My thoughts too - sure it's not a cam shaft bolt failure! Seems this is not unknown on the inlet side after a cam belt change! There was a recall on early engines over this and apparently can still occur if bolts are reused.

Seems it's not unknown and does happen...

(scroll down to the 17th August under the picture of the MG ZR).

I'll ask Ali to take a picture of the broken cam shaft when he gets it out the car.

Cheers,

Sh*t...

Mine is sitting on Woody's drive with a hellish misfire - was mucking about trying to get a throttle linkage sorted out, ran out of time and started it up to drive home. Sadly the throttle cable was snagged up and it shot to the limiter as soon as it caught.

Now misfiring like a bustard - although it's running on 3, not 2 - I'd imagine that the inlet cam farking up would kill 2 cylinders, no?

Ouch! High RPM from cold start - IMHO I'd be 'hoping' it was a damaged/stuck valve :( .Compression test is the way forward I think :?
