Advice needed on getting my nuts off - Need to sort by 5pm!

Post by Sanjøy » Fri Apr 10, 2009 12:55 pm

Changing the wheels this lunch time from winter to summer tyres. I put the winter tyres on a few months ago so are at human Nm. For the life of me cannot shift two nuts. Using a spider, using the method Lawrence showed me of tightening then slackening and not joy.

Thoughts ?

Turning the right way and shyed away from breaker bar as nervous about breaking the actual bolt.

The bolt won't be as weak as you are, will take a good bit of strength to shear them. Just do it just go for it with a bar it will be very unlikely you will shear it :thumbsup

Oooo another point, use a torque wrench the next time and tighten them to the correct torque so you can have a feel at how tight they should be. Human Torque is a bit of a guessing game, use a torque and get a feel and you will be suprized how little they need to be torqued up :thumbsup Most people will overtighten their wheels and it only causes problems like your having!

My dad put the alloy wheel back on Hollys car once and tighted the locking nut up so much that when I went to take it out the key totally twisted and became distorted. 6 hours later with angle grinders, chisels, hammers, oversized socked, grazed knuckles I got the wheel off :damnfunny

Put all bolts back in, drive to your local tyre fitter and ask them to take a gun to it... Drop them a couple of beer tokens for helping...

Job done.

far too late to help but you could get a long bit of metal and use it as a punch and give the nut a good smack with a hammer.

15 mins of McApe wrestling one in his teeth sorted it and the other needed a 20ft piece of scaffolding I had kicking about.

Elise parts nuts going on this week.

Cheers
