its a Exise S
Is that a new model

Factory settings are fine for the road. If you don't plan on doing any trackdays you may as well change the 48's to a decent road tyre as well.

i have no doubt that the standard set up would be fine, but i feel the car might need a reset as such, previous owner had it for a year and done 9k on it. so wether he had anything done.

without causing a tyre debate,
which road tyres would you suggest as i was under the impression the a048s were good as road tyres?

AD07's are a good road tyre and should be available in the right size.

As Kenny says standard is best if it's not a track car - I could give you the figures I used to run my elise at when it was the track toy but it meant that you could only poottle or attack the B roads - there wasn't any inbetween.

vxc, i presume you mean an exige? ;)

The 48's are about as good as you can get, track or road, until you start to deal with standing water when their ability to aquaplane will rapidly cause pinch marks in the seat. Wear rate is high too & some folk have swapped to the harder wearing but not so grippy toyo r888 for general use.

As far as I know, the AD07 tyre that is standard on the S2 Elise, is not available in the Exige front (195) size, which is a shame as many people rate it highly.

After discovering a set of 48's would last me about 6 weeks, for general hackabout use I use the Toyo t1-r, as they are a pretty good all rounder. No where near the level of grip and steering response you'll get from the semi slicks but they are half the price last 3 times as long and work well in deep puddles.

Cheers,

Steve

I would argue that there is no noticeable difference between the two in terms of ultimate grip, biggest difference is the sidewall stiffness which comes down to a personal preference which tyre is best.

Would suggest that you definitely set it to factory geo while you learn it then. If you want it to do something different when you know the car properly (like in a few hundred track miles) then consider it at that stage.
