Minor Question: diffuser grilles

Trying to get the rear diffuser grilles off to paint 'em. ('04 elise s)

The top fixing to the clam is a PITA- can't get it to move. It's a plastic pin, with three expanding lugs on the upper face....squeezing the lugs together and pulling it down doesn't seem to work; this seems the obvious answer, though it's difficult to pinch all three due to space constraints.... The others are just pins in a hole and pop out easy.

Could easily cut them but would rather not destroy if there's something simple I'm missing?

pm Dezzy as at the last sponge and spanners thing the sight of my rusty grill was giving him nighmares. So he asked if he could paint them so the plan is turn up and just make sure he's there.

Bertie, I can't really remember how we removed them but don't remember having much difficulty. Sorry, I know that's not much use. Might be worth comparing yours and Stuart's next time you're together to see if the fixings are different.
