Brake Pads with harmony in the household
Folks,
Its time to replace the brake pads on the elise 111R but have hit a bit of an issue regarding what to get as a replacement.
My wife has asked that we get brake pads that do not clunk or squeel as she gets irrated with the noise.
I am trying to steer away from OE brembo pads as they are not that great and want something with decent stopping power. The car is not tracked and it's used in a variety of different ways from commuting (mostly stop/start) to fast road.
So which ones do I go for: Pagid Blue, EBC Red/Yellow, Others?
Cheers

Mintex 1144. Best value for money road pad in my opinion & more than capable of some spirited driving
Arriving broadside, in a cloud of smoke......

And will clunk unless you have the anti-rattle buffers fitted properly. They do come with them though.
Bloody dusty though...

Had Mintex 1144's on the S1 (111S) and did like them but they did clunk but could have been the anti rattle buffers.
Keep the suggestions coming

Have them on my S1 and they clunk like f**k, but on Elaines 111R (with the buffers in properly) they are silent.

Shug,
Could not have asked more - direct comparison between S1/111R.

I've got Greenstuff on mine and there's no clunking or squealing. They're fine on road but aren't great for track so I'll probably be putting something else on next time

Re: Brake Pads with harmony in the household
I have heard alot of very good reports about the EBC yellow stuff pads. They are also well priced - might be worth a try? from what i have read, they are very quiet, with little dust, and are good for fast road use, and some track use.
I have EBC green stuff, which are good for normal/fast road use, but cannot comment on what they are like on a track.
There was a large thread on SELOC about a month ago regarding yellow stuff pads, so might be worth doing a search
Would be interested to hear how you get on, with whatever brand you decide to use.

Thumbs up for the greens as well.. also don't get the wheels as dirty either.....neil wrote:I've got Greenstuff on mine and there's no clunking or squealing. They're fine on road but aren't great for track so I'll probably be putting something else on next time
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....
Re: Brake Pads with harmony in the household
On my S1 I went from greens to mintex and I thought that the mintex were much better and took less time to work from cold. They did seem to leave a fair bit of soot and also squealed quite badly after tracking in the heat of France. This went away after a few hundred miles and no tracking back home.
I am now needing new pads (and disks
) on the exige and will probably just go for mintex again. I cannot justify the cost of pagids no matter how good they are. I am a long way from needing the best brakes on track as there are so many other areas of my ability that can be improved upon before I need to brake later and harder
EBC yellows may be ok, but I am not one for getting caught up in the internet hype on SELOC where quite often you never hear of a first hand account and even then seldom from anyone that I have met/know/trust their opinion. Once one ot two people on here have tried them and commented I'll make my mind up on them.

Re: Brake Pads with harmony in the household
Folks,
Thanks for all the info, decided to go for the Mintex M1144's as its a know quantity (as being the cheapest) to what I previously had in the S1. So should be fitted on Friday so I can have a little bit more confidence in the braking again.
Cheers
