Dripping oil ......
Dripping oil ......
Noticed it today when after I had parked up after the 50 miles jaunt to the GLA. Got a iphone torch to it and lookes like it has ran to along the edge of the undertray a bit to approx where the air intake is on the driver side.
IIRC the oil filter is at the rear of the car, suggestions where I should be looking in the morning ?
Car was serviced <3 weeks ago without issue and has seen a few runs since then.

Re: Dripping oil ......
The fluid will run across the undertray depending on angle car is parked at, etc. If you take the undertray off you should be able to determine where the oil is hitting the tray and then work your way back from there to the source. My money is on drive shaft ...

Re: Dripping oil ......
Easy to spot the difference between engine oil and Honda CV joint grease Sanjoy, the latter will be darker and stickier and stick to the undertray collecting gunk as opposed to running.

Re: Dripping oil ......
Whats the chances of my Mum having a full set of allen keys, very good!
Car is parked on a slight kerb (3 inch) but the oil is still sticking to the raised RHS, nothing on the left. Prob as it is exiting the central naca / highlighted bolt
On the photo with the kitchen towel the dipstick result on the left can be compared to the leaking oil. Looks and smells similar. Dipstick is between the two dots.
Do no have the tools with me to jack and drop the rear undertray.
Will prob drive it home below vtec which incidentally kicked in no probs last night.

TIA

Re: Dripping oil ......
If it smells like engine oil it will be, any gearbox oil or CV grease has a very distinctive smell and it's not like engine oil at all

Certainly looks like engine oil as opposed to the other two.

If you don't know what engine oil smells like, sniff your dipstick

Re: Dripping oil ......
Got the car back to Edin without going in to vtec to keep the oil pressure low.
Got the car up on ramps tonight and dropped the rear undertray. Oil in my face off the tray, nice touch.
As mentioned above the oil was running all over the place along sills, lips etc. I am 99% sure I have tracked it down to the oil cooler.
Without speaking to Scotty or Dan I reckon it is the Mocal water to oil cooler but the question is does it have serviceable parts as I reckon a seal might have gone at one end of it.
Anyways the video below shows an idiots tour of the problem, all advice much appreciated. I put 600ml of oil in to bring it back up to correct level.
I have left the rear undertray off so that I can have a look in the morning to see where the drop is if at all. Could it only drip under pressure of vtec ?
Oh and driving back from my friends garage all the rattles have gone, damned undertray.

TIA

Re: Dripping oil ......
If it is the mocal then the guys at Think Automotive will be able to supply parts I would think, always very helpful . . .
I would also say that the mocal has been modded to fit it's mounting bracket and the same screws hold it together . . . normally you wouldn't have vibration issues loosening these screws but with it now acting as the mounting for the mounting bracket I would think it may be possible they could have loosened especially if they haven't been threadlocked . . . worth checking . . .

Re: Dripping oil ......
I think you have hit it spot on. Had the car up on a hoist today and it was coming out strong from one of the end plates not the top oil pipe as thought. Tightened that and it stemmed it somewhat but still not 100%.fd wrote:If it is the mocal then the guys at Think Automotive will be able to supply parts I would think, always very helpful . . .

Degreased and ran it up to temp and showed leaks from other end and the bottom pipe faceplate. Top face plate looked fine (through LED lit wiggly worm camera thingy).

Will speak to Dan about the mounts as he originally installed it and there have been no issues with it even after some hard miles. I think new mounts are needed then a tightenup.
