Track rod rose joints - cheap option...

Post by Michael » Mon Jun 08, 2009 8:33 pm

I see that there are engineers supplying "motorsport" spec rose joints, apparently of all shapes and sizes for really low prices.

The replacement ones for my exige come in at 95 each

....and I need a pair..... An unbelievable price for a "consumable"....

Would you say the link above shows excellent replacements??

Cheers :thumbsup

For "Motorsport" I would read "for off-road use". I've seen other companies selling similar joints, but they're a little more honest about the spec. IMHO, for safety critical items like these, I would steer clear of ebay and stick to OE parts.

David, I do agree mostly....

Can you offer any info on the construction of the OEM part? Im simply trying to justify the cost...if I can see why it's expensive then I'll tend to buy something if i need/want it....

Im just after rebuilding the entire front suspensions on the passat for only around 250 total. I know these parts are mass produced, but i also know Lotus run an efficient small engineering company.....

All info or preparation for the big bill appreciated

I'm a Caterham person so don't don't know the specific spec of your Exige parts. My main experience with rose joints was in the aviation industry - and there, quality is everything. It is simply that the money goes in to the quality and strength of the materials they are made from. At the prices they are quoting, you are going to get rapid wear, low corrosion resistance, and early failure. In a light weight track car, where they are visible and checked every 20 minutes, this may not be a problem. On a road car it just not worth the extra risk.
