Jumped in the car last night to go for a spin, the car started up fine but sounded a bit rough thought it was just because I hadn't used it for a while. After a mile or so the car gets worse coughing and spluttering followed by the engine management light coming on, after a few more minutes the engine management light starts flashing followed by almost complete loss of power. Called out the AA who diagnosed a misfire in cylinder 4.
He was under the impression it was a coil pack failure. Is this likely or could it be something more serious? Have the AA P&L cover and want to get this fixed as soon as possible. Was going to get it taken to MMC but was wondering now if there is likely to be more too it than just replacing the coil pack if I would be better sending to SLS?
Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated.

does sound like the coilpack, worth changing that first then go from there.

Re: Misfire on Cylinder 4
If its one cylinder it is most likely to be a coil pack or plug.
I would take it to MMC. Just make sure you find out what's wrong and get a quote before authorising them to proceed. If it turns out to be something expensive, arrange for a n other specialist to recover the car from MMC and fix it cheaper (possibly within the P&L claim limit).

Phew, was starting to worry last night that it might have been something mmore serios, will try to arrange for it to be taken through on Monday. Thanks Phil and Dan.
However It did get me thinking though since it was going to go into the garage if it was worth doing any further upgrades too it since it was going to be away being fettled, will start a new topic on it

Re: Misfire on Cylinder 4
its probably water down in the plug tubes, has it been parked out in heavy rain ? this happened to mine , water was getting down past the plastic cam box cover through one of the top screw holes, took the coil pack out ,dried out the whole lot and sprayed the coil pack with wd40 and its been perfect ever since.
Ive since made a rubber seal under the mounting screw so hopefully it wont happen again
