340 wiring

Post by r10crw » Sun Jul 19, 2009 9:17 am

Just wondered if anyone has the wiring diagrams for the 340? I used to have it as an add on for the s1 manual but cant find either. If someone want to mail it on that would be great :thumbsup
Cars been sitting for over a week but with the charger on so batt is fine. Went to turn her over yesterday and she wont fire the starter. The alarm appears to disarm (ican hear a faint click of a relay), Ive got a fuel pump but no click at the starter or any other relay for that matter. Most likely the switch but wouldnt mind a look at the wiring to make sure. The guy before has had some sort of tracker fitted so looking at ridding the car of this at the same time. Cheers Craig.

Thanks Guys, Robin you have PM but no rush matey. Its def the immob at fault. Fuel pump primes alarm light stops falshing then nothing from the starter button. Checked the starter and starter relay which are both fine, just no signal from the starter button. If I then try to start her by manually working the starter she just turns over so guessing there is no power to the injectors/plugs :( Its a META system if that means anything to anyone, believe its different from the elise. Anyone know if there is a way to reset the alarm? or alternatively an easy way to bypass the system, and remove excess weight at the same time :D
I gues the immob must work by breaking the injector power and the starter signal, this should just mean finding the pairs of wires or does the system disable more than this?
Cheers Craig.

I would check the the inputs and outputs at the multi-function relay unit too Craig as that also controls all the things you're having problems with.

Cheers Dan. No MFRU on the 340 its done with seperate relays in the ecu compartment. Ive checked the relays and there ok but havent yet traced the inputs to these, thats next but will wait for the diagrams. Cheers Craig.

The immobiliser appears to have the same 12-pin connector as on the Elise, though it may be any 12-pin connector. In any case, pins 1&6 need to be jumped in order to supply the coil & 02 sensor with +12 when the ignition is on and pins 5&12 need to be jumped in order to allow the starter relay to work.

Unlike the S1 there does not appear to be a connection between the alarm/immob and ECU, so once bypassed it should work.

In case it's hard to work out what's what:

pin 1 on the IMHC should show continuity to the ignition coil +ve supply pin.
pin 6 on the IMHC should be live when ignition is on (it's connected via a 7.5A fuse to the ignition live).

pin 12 on the IHMC should be live when the start button is pressed and ignition is on, floating otherwise.
pin 5 on the IHMC should connect to the start relay live control pin - it'll show ~100 ohm impedance to ground and if jumped live should operate the starter.

Cheers,
Robin

Big thanks to Robin for the manual, studied the wiring and can confirm robin that pins 1 and 6, 5 and 12 did the job. Of course the second its running it starts raining. :(

Yep Im the same, hate the bloody things, much better without it.
Robin the immobiliser is the same plug as the S1, maybe you remember guiding me through that on my S1 about 4 years ago
What is strange is that the fuel is wired from the ignition live direct, I remember it ised to be through the immob on the s1.
Anyhoo its working, so thanks to everyone again.

That's right - I guess it was either convenience or more likely experience with the fuel pump current burning through the connector that made them change it on the 340R. On the plus side, the inertia switch cuts both fuel pump and injector current should you crash it :-)

You can buy a plug that jumps out the immobiliser. Lotus recommend it for motorsport use. Last place I saw one for sale was at Kelsport and only costs a couple of quid. There are of course obvious implications of removing the immobiliser.

Thankfully the connectors are a perfect fit for 1.5 mm flat twin and earth, so jobs a goodun. Big bonus is the alarm still works fine and of course the car still has the immob... its just not connected :D
