(NLC) - BMW 330d - shudder off rear wheel

Post by a4drk » Wed Aug 19, 2009 1:30 pm

I'm getting a shudder off the rear wheel when i accelerate hard in 2nd gear. - just as the turbo has kicked in.
It's not so noticable in 3rd/4th/5th/6th.
(It feels light the N/S/R one)
I thought at first it was wheel spin, but the traction control light doesnt flicker.

Anyone got any ideas what this could be ?

and before anyone asks - posting this on the BMW forum - it will take about 3 months before I get an response....!

I know that the SE'rs are a bit more technically minded.

any thoughts?

Could just be a balancing thing? possibly lost a wheel weight, and the reason you dont get it in other gears is due to the speed your doing,

To rule this out, i would see what speed it happens at in second and try the same speed in third, if it still does it, its probably something simple, if not it might be more serious, is it an auto or a manual?

it's a manual.
Saying that - I just got 2 new tyres on the rear within the last 4 weeks.
and i noticed the sticky weights were doubleld up..!

I'll go & have a look to see if they have fallen off.

good call
cheers

The doubled up weights are on the other wheel.
Theres no weights on that wheel - so i'd imagine that they have fallen off.!

I'll get it balanced.

Cheers

i would say thats the most likely problem!

Cant see it being anything major, a bearing would be constant, the driveshaft is pretty much bomb proof, and the diff is very hard to break....(unless you are like me with my old E30 318is...) lol

the only othe thing i would have said was the auto box if it wasnt a manual but thats not gonna be a problem either for you!

I use a wee garage in Haddington - McCluckies = Really good & cheap as chips.
He'll re-do it for nout.

He's currently fitting a radiator to my Boxster & is charging me about £25 per hour !

Thanks for your help today.
You have just earned yourself a free PAX lap on the charity day if you are going.... !
