Rover K Series

Post by ceejam » Fri Sep 11, 2009 6:57 pm

Bit of a question for the Experts.

My Dad's got a Rover 45 with the MEMS 3 K Series (Plug top coils).

He needs a new engine, so been asking around, and got a few options, but the question is:

What is different about the engine - can we get an older one, and use it with plug top coils and MEMS3, or do we need the correct thing? GUessing the block is the same, but might be differences in the head?

Plan is to get a 1.8 to replace the knackered 1.6, then rebuild the 1.6 as something a bit "hot" as a spare for my Elise, and him.

Cheers Folks.

Either engine will be fine. The mounting points all exist - worst case you may need to move the cam cover from one to the other, but that's not going to be broken on existing car I assume.

Cheers,
Robin

Cool, thanks for that Robin - Not sure what's up with the engine in the car, but want to upgarde to a 1.8 anyway.

We're suspecting either the hydraulic followers, or the timing slipped. Has had a head gasket and oil ladder fairly recently, and had a light hiccup frmo there, but it got worse and only runs on 2/3 cylinders!

Hoping that it will be salvageable for Elise spares!
